Up to 100 Canterbury students will hit the road for a North Canterbury pub crawl just a week after alcohol-fuelled antics in Dunedin.
The university motorsport society's ''Hammered in Hanmer'' event begins on Friday despite student riots and arrests marring the Undie 500 car rally in Dunedin last weekend.
Speaking to a Christchurch newspaper, society president Pete McClean said this weekend's event would be ''completely different'' to the Undie 500.
''The event is based on activities. There will also be drinking and stuff but in a controlled environment,'' he said.
A lot of planning had gone into making sure participants acted responsibly, McClean said.
